Carl’s story

How Carl found support to help manage his mental health and get back to work.

Discovering the power of self-care

Carl is a long-term bank worker who recently developed severe anxiety. Personal issues at home, changes at work and new pressure of caring for his grandparents were all taking a toll on his wellbeing.

Carl was avoiding social situations, struggling with sleep and unable to maintain personal relationships. He realised he wasn’t managing well on his own, so called us to see how we could support him.

After a calm, honest chat, we agreed an assessment with a specialist charity would be a good first step. The assessment was positive, offering Carl six counselling sessions and ongoing access to a range of stress-related resources.

Now, Carl has the tools in place to better manage his wellbeing on his own. He’s back at work, and taking one day at a time.

The counselling from the Bank Workers Charity helped me enormously. I still use the stress management resources they provided, and I feel more able to manage my wellbeing when stressful situations arise
